Wilkins De La Rosa Promoted to Tampa Yankees

CHARLESTON- The New York Yankees announced Friday that Charleston RiverDogs pitcher Wilkins De La Rosa has been promoted to the High Class-A Tampa Yankees. The RiverDogs will likely complete their four-game series against the Rome Braves with 24 players on the roster, with the hopes of adding a new player before the upcoming eight-game road trip to Delmarva and Lakewood.

De La Rosa is the fourth RiverDog hurler to receive a promotion to Tampa this season following Zach McAllister, Jason Stephens and most recently Jesse Hoover to the Florida State League (FSL).

In just his second season as a pitcher, the Dominican native De La Rosa began the campaign in the RiverDogs bullpen acting as a key middle reliever in Charleston’s 45-25 first half showing, which set a franchise record for wins in a single half.

The 6’1” southpaw was then shifted to the starting rotation to begin the second half and never skipped a beat, posting a 4-2 record with a 1.76 ERA in eight starts. The former outfielder had perhaps his best career start last time out against Greenville on August 4, tossing 7.0 shutout innings while allowing only one base hit with one walk and five strikeouts.

For the season, De La Rosa surrendered just 23 earned runs on 60 hits in 90.1 innings of work, while walking 39 and fanning 110 batters, which is tied for fifth in the South Atlantic League (SAL) at the time of his promotion.
